As the new year arrives, many of us feel motivated to make changes and set goals. But real, lasting change doesn’t happen overnight. It requires intention, consistency and time.
I learned this lesson the hard way a few years ago when I decided I was going to transform my health and habits. I dove in too fast, taking on multiple challenging goals at once. Within a few weeks I was exhausted and overwhelmed, and I ended up abandoning it all.
What I realized is that change needs to start small and focus on depth over speed. This year, I’m slowing down and getting clear on my priorities. For me, what matters most is getting closer to God, taking better care of my body and being fully present with loved ones.
Getting closer to God means setting aside quiet time each morning to pray, reflect on scripture and listen for His voice guiding me. Letting go of busyness and creating space to strengthen my faith has been life-changing.
Making self-care a priority looks like exercising 3 times a week but also moving my body everyday for at least 3 minutes, meal prepping healthy foods and sticking to a regular sleep schedule. I’ve stopped comparing myself to others and consuming toxic media – freeing up mental energy.
Nurturing relationships means having meaningful conversations where I really listen. Cooking dinner together, praying as a family, and laughing more have brought us closer.
When you start valuing depth over speed and consumption, your life transforms. This intentional living allows you to cultivate habits and mindsets to become your best self.
